The Board of Regents
Our Mission
The South Dakota Board of Regents has constitutional authority to govern the system of public higher education in the State of South Dakota. Supported by an Executive Director and staff, the Board provides leadership and sets policies for the programs and services delivered through its six universities and two special schools.
Strategic Plan
After the 2020 South Dakota Legislature passed Senate Bill 55, a 20-member task force of legislative, business, and education leaders took its charge to heart. From October 2020 to June 2021, the task force engaged in a detailed study of operations and functions of higher education under the Board of Regents’ authority.
As the task force work progressed, it became clear that a new strategic plan must guide the Board of Regents’ direction as we advance. The plan was shaped by the final task force report, recommendations, and numerous internal and external discussions. Click to access
