New Science Degrees Approved at Two South Dakota Universities
The newest undergraduate degree offerings in the public university system
focus on science fields. The South Dakota Board of Regents this week approved a bachelor’s
degree in medical biology at The University of South Dakota and an associate degree in
biotechnology at Northern State University. Both will be available to students starting this fall.
USD Health Sciences Degree Offers New Transfer Options for Students at Technical Institutes
Articulation agreements reached between South Dakota’s public universities
and technical institutes have opened up new opportunities for students to transfer their credits
seamlessly between two- and four-year degree programs. This week, the Board of Regents
authorized two more agreements involving a popular health sciences degree at The University of
South Dakota.
Adult Learners Attracted to University Centers
Attracting and retaining adult learners within South Dakota is an important
priority for South Dakota public higher education. Expanded programs at university centers in
Sioux Falls, Pierre, and Rapid City have increased access to public higher education in critical need areas.
Dakota State Students Earn Recognition
Student organizations at Dakota State University were recognized
by the South Dakota Board of Regents for their academic excellence, community service, and
organizational leadership.
Six University Researchers Earn State Research Grants
Six public university faculty members have been awarded new competitive
state research grants. The South Dakota Board of Regents was briefed on the projects at its
meeting in Madison.
Master of Music Education Degree Approved at Northern State
Northern State University will offer a master of music education degree
starting this fall. That follows action by the South Dakota Board of Regents at its meeting
in Madison.
Dakota State to Offer New Graduate Degree in Applied Computer Science
The South Dakota Board of Regents has approved a new graduate degree for
Dakota State University in applied computer science. The Madison school will use distance
technology to deliver it, allowing more people to pursue an advanced degree while employed.
New Teacher Training Model to be Developed
A new model for teacher training at South Dakota public universities would
involve teacher education students in three years of coursework on campus, based on the new
Common Core Standards, followed by a full year of residency in a school setting.
