USD Student Groups Recognized for Efforts
Student organizations at The University of South Dakota were
recognized for academic work, community service, and organizational leadership by the South
Dakota Board of Regents.

Report: Student Athletes Perform Well at Public Universities
Student athletes in the South Dakota public university system generally
do as well academically as their non-athlete counterparts, according to the latest report from the
Board of Regents. On some indicators, athletes outperform the rest of the student population, the
report said.
Dakota State to Deliver Computer Science Degree Online
Dakota State University will begin offering its popular bachelor’s degree
in computer science online starting this fall. This makes the degree program, already offered to
students in Madison and Sioux Falls, available to a wider audience.
Public University System Identifies $4.4 Million in Cuts
Public universities and special schools in South Dakota have identified
nearly $4.4 million in cuts to specific programs and activities to balance the state’s higher
education budget for the coming year.
Nursing Degree Targets RNs Holding Two-year Degrees
The University of South Dakota has received permission to begin
offering a bachelor of science in nursing degree. The program, however, is available only to
those registered nurses who already hold a two-year degree.

Two Students Win Fowler-Kaden Memorial Scholarship
The South Dakota Board of Regents awarded the 2010-2011 Annis Irene
Fowler-Kaden Scholarship to two South Dakota high school students. The recipients, Stacie
Kjelden and Rachel Walnder, will each receive a $1,000 award.
USD Student Wins Haines Scholarship
Catherine Graves has been awarded a $2,150 Haines Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
USD Student Wins Scarborough Scholarship
Alexandra VanderWeide, a biology major at The University of South Dakota
and a graduate of Brandon Valley High School, has been awarded the Marlin R. Scarborough
Scholarship by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
Beth Swaney Awarded Bjugstad Scholarship
Beth Swaney, a senior at Lake Preston High School, has been awarded a $500 Bjugstad Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
