Regents Present Awards to BHSU and SDSMT Student Organizations

RAPID CITY-The South Dakota Board of Regents, meeting today on the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology campus, presented awards to student organizations from SDSMT and Black Hills State University.  President Harvey C. Jewett presented the awards on the Board's behalf.  "The Board is always proud to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of our students.  Participation in student organizations is a great way to build character," said Jewett.

The award for academic excellence was presented to the Black Hills Association for the Education of Young People at Black Hills State University. The goal of this organization is to be an advocate for young people in the community.   Educational events and activities are held by the group in order to highlight the importance of child development.

Also receiving the academic excellence award was South Dakota School of Mines and Technology's American Indian Science and Technology Engineering Society.   The club sponsors many activities throughout the academic year that have included an American Indian Forum series, a campus wide blood drive, and participation in an after-school program for youngsters in the Rapid City Area School District.

The award for organizational leadership was presented to The Raver at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.  The Raver, a student-written campus-wide publication, focuses on issues and events that concern students.  Adopting a style consistent with professional magazines, The Raver serves as both the traditional newspaper information source and an entertainment venue on campus.

Also accepting the award for organizational leadership was Sigma Tau Gamma at BHSU. Sigma Tau Gamma provides the entire student body with alternative events to build a better community on campus.  Promoting brotherhood Sigma Tau Gamma serves as every member's family away from home.
