Two Students Win Fowler-Kaden Memorial Scholarship

PIERRE- The South Dakota Board of Regents awarded the 2001-2002 Annis Irene Fowler-Kaden Scholarship to two South Dakota high school students. The recipients, Jessamy Munger and Resa Fincher, will each receive a $1,000 award.

The Annis Irene Fowler-Kaden Scholarship is available to high school seniors planning to major in elementary education at a South Dakota public university. The scholarship was established in 1989 by the family of Annis Irene Fowler-Kaden to recognize and continue Annis' dedication to education. Born in Grant County, South Dakota, to a family of English immigrants, Annis Fowler began a teaching career in 1927 that spanned nearly fifty years. She obtained her B.A. from Northern Normal School and eventually specialized in teaching young students with various learning disabilities.

Jessamy Munger is a senior at Kimball High School and Resa Fincher is a senior at Parker High School. Munger plans to attend Dakota State University in the Fall and Fichner plans to attend Black Hills State University.
