Organization Awards Presented to DSU Student Groups

MADISON - The South Dakota Board of Regents presented awards Wednesday to three student organizations from Dakota State University.

"Leadership and commitment to community service are two traits found in the student organizations on the DSU campus. Skills and values learned while serving in these organizations will follow students throughout their lives," said DSU President Jerald Tunheim.

The DSU groups receiving recognition are:

  • Award for Academic Excellence - The ACM Student Chapter, a campus-based computer club, was presented the academic excellence award based on the numerous services and programs the organization provides students during the academic year. Members of ACM focus on developing programs to help other students. Activities of the group include a "help night" during which members donate their time tutoring students in computer science or computer information systems courses.
  • Community Service Award - The Phi Beta Lambda Business Club was chosen to receive the community service award because of its commitment to DSU and the Madison community. Phi Beta Lambda sponsors numerous fundraisers and projects throughout the year, bringing students, staff, faculty, and community members together for a common cause. This organization is highly respected by the campus and Madison community for all that it does, according to campus officials.
  • Award for Organizational Leadership - Members of the Health Information Management Club are highly active in a number of projects and events each year. The group attends several conferences and also plans a number of campus and community events. HIM fosters many opportunities for students to assess their leadership capabilities. The organization has helped to improve the communication skills, organizational skills, professional knowledge, and leadership abilities of its members.
