For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 4, 2003 District 16 Lawmakers Host Board of Regents at Beresford BERESFORD - A town meeting on South Dakota public higher education is being hosted Monday, Nov. 17, at Beresford High School by state lawmakers from District 16. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school choir room, 301 W. Maple, in Beresford. Representatives of the South Dakota Board of Regents, its staff, and public university presidents will be on hand to visit with area residents. Demographic shifts occurring across South Dakota mean fewer traditional college-age students in the future, along with more non-traditional students and a significant increase in South Dakota's older populations. Rep. Joel Dykstra, Rep. Margaret Gillespie, and Sen. Ken Albers, who extended the invitation to the Regents to meet in Beresford, said the ideas exchanged at this meeting would help South Dakota's public higher education system better plan for the future. -30- |
