Campus Community Representatives Appointed for NSU Presidential Search

BROOKINGS - Twelve people have been appointed by the South Dakota Board of Regents to serve as campus community representatives on the Northern State University Presidential Search and Screen Committee.

"These campus community representatives will play a significant role in the search process for Northern's new president," said Regent Pat Lebrun of Rapid City, who chairs the search. Other Regents serving on the search committee are Carole Pagones of Sioux Falls; Tony Venhuizen of Armour; and Harvey Jewett of Aberdeen, ex officio member.

Named as campus community representatives and the constituencies they represent are:

  • Community - Michael Evans, CEO of Centennial Homes 
  • NSU Foundation - Cindi Walsh, former president of the NSU Foundation Board
  • Alumni - Jeff Erickson, CEO of Great Western Bank in Watertown
  • Exempt Employees - Ruth Johnson, director of graduate studies and instructional services and School of Education faculty member
  • Career Service Employees - Jerilyn Mielke, administrative assistant to the vice president for student affairs
  • Administration - Erika Tallman, director of the Center for Statewide E-learning and professor of biology
  • Faculty - Peter Kilian, associate professor of art; Douglas G. Ohmer, associate professor of management
  • Students - Jason Lemke, graduate student; Abigail Stewart, music junior
  • Institutional Collaboration - James Abbott, University of South Dakota president
  • At Large - Gerald Krueger, NSU alumnus and community volunteer, retired Northwest Airlines pilot

"These people have varied experiences and knowledge of the university which will be extremely helpful in the search process," Lebrun said. "With their input we will choose the right leader for Northern State University."

Former President John Hilpert left Northern to become president of Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss. Don Cozzetto, vice president of academic affairs, is currently serving as interim president.
