VERMILLION - A town meeting on South Dakota
public higher education is being hosted Tuesday, Oct. 28, on the University of South
Dakota campus by District 17 lawmakers.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Al Neuharth Media
Center. Representatives of the South Dakota Board of Regents, its staff, and public
university presidents will be on hand to visit with area residents.
Demographic shifts occurring across South Dakota mean fewer traditional college-age
students in the future, along with more non-traditional students and a significant
increase in South Dakotas older populations.
Local legislators, who extended the invitation to the Regents to meet in Vermillion,
said the ideas exchanged at this meeting would help South Dakotas public higher
education system better plan for the future.
