Rapid City Lawmakers Host Board of Regents Oct. 7

RAPID CITY - A town meeting on South Dakota public higher education is being hosted Oct. 7 on the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology campus by state lawmakers from districts 32, 33, 34 and 35.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the P.D. McKeel Room of the Surbeck Center. Representatives of the South Dakota Board of Regents, its staff, and public university presidents will be on hand to visit with area residents.

Demographic shifts occurring across South Dakota mean fewer traditional college-age students in the future, along with more non-traditional students and a significant increase in South Dakota's older populations.

Local legislators, who extended the invitation to the Regents to meet in Rapid City, said the ideas exchanged at this meeting would help South Dakota's public higher education system better plan for the future.
