Regents Present Awards to DSU Student Organizations

MADISON- The South Dakota Board of Regents, meeting today at Dakota State University, gave awards to two student organizations from DSU. President Harvey C. Jewett presented the awards on the Board's behalf. "Socialization and the development of leadership skills are a very important part of the college experience. The organizations honored today give students the opportunity to learn and grow outside of the classroom," said Jewett.

The award for academic excellence was given to the DSU Phi Beta Lambda Business Club.  Phi Beta Lambda is a national collegiate organization committed to bringing business and education together in a positive working relationship through leadership development programs.   Membership to Phi Beta Lambda is open to any DSU student interested in business. The group's activities during the past year included: the South Dakota Spring Leadership Conference, the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, the South Dakota Phi Beta Lambda Fall Conference in Mitchell, presentations for the Kiwanis, and a Business Etiquette Workshop.

The award for organizational leadership was presented to the DSU Student Activities Board.  The Student Activities Board at Dakota State University provides quality entertainment and a wide range of activities to the students of DSU.  Membership is open to any student currently enrolled at Dakota State who is in good standing with the university and is willing to dedicate time and energy to the success of the organization.  Events and activities conducted by the Student Activities Board over the past year include: movie night, bowling night, a semi-formal social and performances by hypnotists, comedians, and jugglers.

Accepting the award for the Phi Beta Lambda Business Club were Tracy Steed, Jessica Fritzsche, and Kerry Terwilliger.  Also in attendance was the Phi Beta Lambda Advisor Dan Talley.  Steve Kludt and Jessica Wille accepted the award for the DSU Student Activities Board.
