PIERRE-Monte Kramer, a native of Pierre, has joined the Board of Regents Staff as the new Director of Finance and Administration. Kramer returned to Pierre and the Board of Regents staff after spending the past six years at the University of South Dakota where he served as Comptroller and during which time he earned his Masters in Business and Administration.
"Monte brings experience to the position of Director of Finance and Administration. He has worked in South Dakota state government for more than 17 years and was involved in South Dakota higher education 15 of those years. He understands the needs and directives of higher education in South Dakota and has the knowledge and skills to meet them. We are extremely pleased that Monte is back on the Board staff," said Regents Executive Director Robert T. Tad Perry.
Kramer's service in state government began in 1983 working for the Health Department and Social Services. In 1985 he was hired by the Board of Regents as a Budget Analyst and in 1987 he became the Board's Assistant Director of Budget and Finance. He left the Board of Regents staff in 1994 for the Comptroller position at USD.
"I am excited to return to the system office confident that my campus experience and educational enhancement will serve me well as the Director of Finance and Administration. I have gained a whole new perspective on student issues and the operational challenges faced at the campus level. Fifteen years with SD higher education, including campus and system experience, have prepared me well for the next challenge," said Kramer.
Kramer fills the position left vacant by Regents Director of Administrative Affairs, Kathy Johnson. Johnson left the Board of Regents to become Vice President of Finance and Administration at Black Hills State University in Spearfish.
