Artwork from Northern State University Displayed in the New Regents Gallery
PIERRE-The South Dakota Board of Regents is enjoying the first artwork to be featured in the newly created Regents Gallery. The first works to be displayed in the Regents Gallery are from a group faculty show organized by Northern Galleries, Northern State University (NSU).
"The idea for the Regents Gallery was conceived while working on the plans for our new office space. We decided to expand upon the gesture made by the campuses over the years to provide artwork for us to enjoy and display. The Regents Gallery is an area dedicated to show off the artistic talent that is associated with our universities and specials schools," said Regents Executive Director Robert T. Tad Perry.
The Regents plan to hold several art exhibitions in the Regents Gallery. Artwork will be supplied from students and staff at the six public universities and two special schools.
The display from NSU is a collection of works from the five art instructors in NSU's art department. The display includes artwork that is representative of their various individual styles and content interests.
Bill Hoar teaches art history and art appreciation courses at NSU. He has on display colored photographs taken while he was on sabbatical in Taiwan three years ago. Peter Kilian, NSU instructor of advertising design, computer graphics, drawing, and print making, has displayed paintings depicting various landscapes. Mark McGinnis, painting and design instructor at NSU, is showing a sequence of paintings that deals with the composure of the female form. Doug Pfliger, art education instructor, has on display acrylic paintings that depict inanimate objects as metaphors for life. Mark Shekore, NSU instructor for ceramics, photography, and sculpture is displaying pottery and photographs.
