Personal Statement

Being the eldest of 6 children, there was the pressure to leave my mark and break path for them to follow. I knew I needed to get to college, I just did not know how to get there. The admissions process was intimidating and we did not get a lot of university admissions counselors coming to our reservation high school, saying , “let me help you get to college.” I eventually stumbled my way there and met some really amazing support staff and professors who became my tiospaye at college. They guided me on my journey, removed barriers and helped me jump some pretty big hurdles. Without them, I cannot say for sure if I would have made it but I did! And am now ready to help others do it! By working with Jump Start as an Access Advisor, this is my wopila, way to give thanks, and help other young relatives achieve their life goals and dreams through education and earning their degrees, too.
