The intent and purpose of this website is to assist both future teachers and practicing teachers in preparing for the Praxis II tests which are required for teacher certification in South Dakota . This site addresses the academic preparation for these tests. For information specific to the teacher certification process in South Dakota , please contact the South Dakota Department of Education.
This website is a result of the collaborative efforts of South Dakota 's twelve institutions of higher education with teacher education programs. These institutions include public, private, and tribal colleges and universities. This effort was funded by the EveryTeacher Teacher Quality Enhancement grant which was awarded to the South Dakota Department of Education by the US Department of Education.
This website contains a list of the tests and the concepts on each test as published in Tests at a Glance (2005), a publication of the Educational Testing Service (ETS). For each test concept, universities/colleges in the state of South Dakota determined where in their program, in which course, this information was taught. The relationship between the universities/colleges and the teacher education programs appears in a matrix format. Each test number serves as a link to the test concepts and the courses on that particular campus which address content related to the test concepts. Finally, each course is linked to a review sheet that has been created by a faculty member on that campus.
It is hoped that this website will provide an efficient structure for test preparation whether it be for teacher candidates who need to review for the test for their initial teacher certification or for those who are in the field already teaching and seeking to expand their certification. Please remember that this website remains a work in progress. If the review sheets which you need from a particular campus are not posted, please come back again. New review sheets are being added on an ongoing basis and feedback from website users is being used for the continuous improvement of the website.
