Health Care Notices Provided Under Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
Posted October 1, 2013
As a requirement of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the South Dakota Board of Regents must provide the Health Insurance Marketplace Notice to all employees. The federal government mandated this notice in an effort to notify everyone that health insurance exchanges are accepting applications starting October 1.
State employees with health insurance may not find the insurance exchange or Marketplace as useful as others. If you are a benefits-eligible employee you do not pay a premium for your health insurance coverage. Therefore, the coverage you have qualifies as affordable, and your responsibility to carry health coverage is satisfied.
This notice is more helpful to SDBOR employees who are not offered health insurance due to a temporary or non-benefit eligible position, or those that are new employees and may have a pre-existing condition waiting period.
The Marketplace can help you evaluate your coverage options, including your eligibility for coverage through the Marketplace and its cost. Please visit HealthCare.gov or call 800.318.2596 or visit your local insurance agent more information.
