Higher Education Policy in the News:
December 22, 2011 -- South Dakota's public university system has prioritized a list of building construction projects and infrastructure upgrades as part of a new 10-year Capital Improvement Plan. While legislators will be asked to approve it when they convene in Pierre, no state tax dollars will go to finance any of the construction projects.
December 16, 2011 -- A new study shows that about 70 percent of South Dakota resident students who attend one of the state’s six public universities will remain here after college graduation to either work or to pursue additional postsecondary education.
December 16, 2011 -- It is a common perception that South Dakota suffers from a “brain drain” of students leaving the state to attend college elsewhere. A new study presented to the South Dakota Board of Regents this week refutes that belief.
October 12, 2011 -- Beginning next summer, South Dakota’s six public universities will move to a 120 credit-hour limit for most bachelor-degree programs and 60 credit hours for associate degrees.
