Report Shows Progress
USDSU, the public higher education
center in Sioux Falls, capped a history-making academic year with legislative
approval for new permanent facilities and a fall 2005 enrollment that
topped previous records.
Regents
Support Broadband Consortium
To connect South Dakota to
a high-speed broadband telecommunications network, the South Dakota
Board of Regents will consider funding for the project in its budget
request to Gov. Mike Rounds and the 2007 Legislature.

The South Dakota Board of Regents recognized three student-led organizations
at South Dakota State University for excellence during the board’s
meeting on the Brookings campus.

Approves University of South Dakota Occupational Therapy Participation
in Student Exchange Program
The Board of Regents approved
an agreement that will allow The University of South Dakota to receive
master of science in occupational therapy students supported by five
western states.
School
of Mines Program Selected for Western Regional Graduate Student Exchange
The
master’s and Ph.D. degree programs in materials engineering and
science, offered by South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, will
become part of the Western Regional Graduate Program operated by the
Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). The South
Dakota Board of Regents approved participation in the program.

Approved for First-Ever Graduate Degree in Science
The South Dakota Board of
Regents has approved a master of science degree in integrative genomics
at Black Hills State University, signaling a new direction for master’s
degrees offered by the Spearfish university.

Aviation Degree Expanded
With the bachelor of science degree in aviation approved for South Dakota
State University, students will now be able to specialize in three distinct
areas. The South Dakota Board of Regents approved the expanded degree
offering.

A Sioux
Falls man is the new chairman of a state advisory committee that provides
leadership to federally-funded projects to stimulate more competitive
research in South Dakota.

Appointed to System Research Post
A native South Dakotan with
a history of active research in medical and aerospace fields has been
hired to assume leadership of a statewide university research initiative.
Scott Meyer will become system vice president of research June 26, the
South Dakota Board of Regents has announced.
