Regents Recognize SDSMT and BHSU Student Groups
Student-led organizations at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Black Hills State University were recognized by the South Dakota Board of Regents for academic excellence, community service, and leadership.

Regents Approve New Degree Options for Western South Dakota
Action taken by the South Dakota Board of Regents will bring more higher education opportunities to people in western South Dakota. The Regents approved requests to expand existing degree programs to Rapid City, Spearfish, Mission, and Gillette, Wyo., and also approved new undergraduate minors for Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

South Dakota High School Graduates Seize Opportunity

A total of 826 high school graduates were recipients of the 2004 Opportunity
Scholarship. The South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship is a new program that awards a $5,000
scholarship over four years to qualifying high school graduates who complete the Regents
Scholar curriculum and maintain certain academic standards. This is the first year the
scholarship money was awarded.

State University System Enrollments Hold Steady

South Dakota’s public university system reported a total enrollment with little change from
the previous year. The number of full-time equivalent students also showed virtually no change.
Enrollment is at a plateau.
