Information
Security is Focus of New DSU Center & Degree
The South Dakota Board of Regents created a new center at Dakota State University to
conduct leading-edge education and research on information security in the banking and
finance industry. The center will also support a new master's degree in information
assurance and computer security at DSU.
Public
Higher Education Offers Training in Entrepreneurship
A new minor to be offered by all public universities in South Dakota will prepare more
college graduates to establish and operate small businesses.

Approve New Engineering Major at SDSMT; Minors in Reading and Non-Profit Management

As the nation's mining industry evolves, mining engineers are required not only to have a
thorough education in engineering principles, but sound business judgment as well. A new
bachelor's degree program at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology will equip those
graduates for the business world.

Students Priority for Public University System
First-year experience programs, such as freshman seminars and learning
communities, are among the ways South Dakota's public university system can do more to
keep students in college, a new report says.

As the next step toward a goal of strengthening the state's economy through focused
university research, the South Dakota Board of Regents is creating a Research Affairs
Council to provide leadership and coordination for the higher education system's research
agenda.

Gains in SD Public Universities Outpace National Averages
South Dakota's public university students continue to gain academically more in their
first two years of college than the national average. The South Dakota Board of Regents
was briefed Tuesday on a report that compares the achievement of South Dakota students,
based on ACT and college proficiency exams, to other students across the country who
attend a public or private four-year college.

Regents Pleased with Gov.
Rounds' Focus on Research, Health Care Programs
Gov. Mike Rounds' strategic research initiative will give South Dakota's public
universities new tools to become a more aggressive partner with the state and private
sector in growing the state's economy, the South Dakota Board of Regents said.
