Board of Regents Announces: NSU Presidential Search Campus Advisory Committee

Rapid City—Meeting today on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, the Board Regents announced the members of the Northern State University Presidential Search Campus Advisory Council. The Council is composed of two faculty, two students, one Career Service Act employee, one CSA-exempt employee, one administrator, and one representative each from the foundation, alumni, and the Aberdeen community.

Regent James Hart, Chairman of the Regental Search Committee announced the names of the ten people, representing a range of constituencies at Northern, to advise the Board in the selection of a new president for Northern State University. The Advisory Council includes: Lysbeth Benkert-Rasmussen and Paul Everson, representing the faculty; Lonn Sweet, representing administration; Adam Coleman and Barbara Winrenburg, representing the student body; Keith Gerving, representing CSA employees; Deb Walker, representing CSA-exempt employees; Paul Carlson, Tim Kessler, and Heidi Ruch, representing the foundation, alumni, and the Aberdeen community.

The selection of a campus advisory committee is consistent with Board by-laws and is meant to provide for campus community input into the important decision of selecting a university president. Regent Hart thanked the Council members for agreeing to serve, stating, "The Board appreciates your willingness to be a part of this important process. The Advisory Council plays a crucial role in presidential selections [by] providing perspective and feedback that assists the Board in the final selection."

The NSU presidency was vacated by John Hutchinson, who resigned July 31, to take a pastoral position in Missouri. John Hilpert, former Vice President for University Relations at the University of South Dakota, took over as interim president. He will serve until 1 July 1998 at the conclusion of a national search for a permanent president. NSU is a comprehensive liberal arts university in Aberdeen with approximately 2,500 students.

The Board will meet tomorrow at SDSMT and discuss salary competitiveness, among other things.
