President Hutchinson of NSU Announces Resignation
ABERDEEN, SD-Today, President John M. Hutchinson of Northern State University announced that he will resign his post effective _ _, 1997, after nearly four years at the university. Hutchinson, an ordained clergyman in the Episcopal Church, has accepted a parish leadership position in _, Missouri.
Hutchinson, who has been president of Northern since July 1993, has seen the university confer over 1800 degrees to students, the addition of the BS in Professional Accountancy to a comprehensive business program, the $5 million addition to the Beulah Williams Library, and most recently 10 year reaccreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). Currently, Hutchinson also serves as the President of the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce.
Board of Regents President David R. Gienapp said of the news, "President Hutchinson's leadership at Northern and in the system will be missed, the Regents wish to express their appreciation of his service to South Dakota and wish him well in his future endeavours." Regents Executive Director Robert T. Tad Perry said, "It is not unusual for university presidents to move on after a few years and we will initiate a search fairly soon."
Hutchinson came to NSU from the Montana System of Higher Education where he served as Commissioner. He has also served as an academic officer for the Montana Commission and at Idaho State University in Pocatello where he previously served as Dean for Graduate Studies and Research. He received an undergraduate degree in Speech from the University of Redlands, Redlands California and an MS and PhD in Speech Pathology and Speech Science from Purdue University.
