Regents Award Haines Scholarship to Two BHSU and NSU Students
PIERRE, SD-Today the Board of Regents announced that Tina Brosch of Rapid City, a sophomore at Black Hills State University, and Kelly Fisk of Tulare, a junior at Northern State University, are the 1997 recipients of the Haines Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Board of Regents.
The $1,750 award was established by Douglas Fugitt in memory of his wife, Dora Lee Haines, and her four sisters, all of whom taught in one-room schools in rural Perkins and Corson counties. The scholarship is awarded each year to one or more students majoring in education at one of South Dakota's public universities, based on their high school and collegiate records, as well as statements of educational and personal philosophy.
Brosch, who graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1980, serves on the BHSU Reading Council, South Dakota State Reading Council, and the International Reading Association, and is a mother of one.
Fisk, who graduated from Tulare High School, participates in the Honors Society, Phi Eta Sigma, band, Student Ambassadors, NSU Speech and Hearing Club, Student South Dakota Education Association, NSU Reading Council, South Dakota Reading Council.
