The role of Black Hills State
University is that of a liberal arts university providing

Northern State University is a
multi-purpose, regional institution of higher education,
authorized for the people of South Dakota by the South Dakota
Legislature. Founded as a normal and industrial school to serve
the northern part of the state, the University has diversified

South Dakota and to serve in a dual leadership and resource role

appropriate state agencies, educational cooperatives, local
education agencies, and colleges and universities. It is
recognized that the mission of the South Dakota School for the

statewide delivery system for children in need of special
