Admission Requirements
Required Classes (effective Fall 1996)
(For persons of traditional college age who are not transfer students) The following core of courses must be completed with a "C" average or better*:
- English -- 4 years
- Mathematics -- 3 years (Algebra or above)
- Laboratory Science -- 3 years (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
- Social Studies -- 3 years
- Fine Arts -- 1/2 year
- Computer Science -- 1/2 year
Students not meeting this requirement in a given subject area may substitute with a score of at least 17 on the relevant ACT subject test or a score of at least 2 on a relevant College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examination. (Note: University credit is not normally awarded for AP scores of 2.)
Other Requirements (effective Fall 1996)
In addition to the course requirements, students seeking admission to one of South Dakota's public universities must also meet ONE of the following criteria:
- An ACT composite score of 18
- Rank in top 60% of high school graduating class
- Cumulative high school GPA of 2.6 or higher
