Regents Approve Tuition & Fee Rates for 2013-14

The South Dakota Board of Regents Thursday approved tuition and mandatory fees for the upcoming academic year. The impact to students in the public university system is an average cost increase of $334.88 per year, or 4.4 percent.

Northern State Students Earn Recognition from Regents

Student organizations from Northern State University were recognized for their outstanding academic, community, and organizational work by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Krogman Elected to Head Board of Regents

Dean M. Krogman, a member of the South Dakota Board of Regents since 2003, is the board’s new president, succeeding Kathryn Johnson, who served in that position for the past two years.

Eagle Creek Software and Public Higher Education Partner to Bring High-Tech Jobs to South Dakota
An innovative higher education partnership with the state and the country’s
largest onshore software services company is moving forward. A committee of the South Dakota Board of Regents endorsed plans for a specialized training academy that produces information technology consultants, and could result in 1,000 new high-tech jobs for South Dakota over the next three to five years. Plans also call for customized graduate courses leading to further employment opportunities in the IT field.

Regents Hear Report on Governor’s Research Centers

According to a report presented to the South Dakota Board of Regents, the
Governor’s Research Centers continue to meet their goals for accelerating growth of competitive research and strengthening South Dakota’s economy through emphasis on converting ideas to commercial endeavors.

Hansen Awarded Honorary Doctorate for Lifetime of Service to South Dakota Public Education

The South Dakota Board of Regents awarded its highest honor to James O. Hansen of Pierre for extraordinary service and leadership to the state of South Dakota spanning more than 60 years.

South Dakota to Offer Need-Based Financial Aid to College Students

Legislative action this year has brought South Dakota in line with other states
who offer need-based financial aid to students pursuing postsecondary education.

Governor Signs Performance Funding Bill

Members of an interim committee on postsecondary education joined Gov. Dennis Daugaard to commemorate the signing of three Senate bills that were products of a 2012 summer study. Effective July 1, the new laws provide a framework for performance funding of the public universities; create a state Council on Higher Education Policy Goals, Performance, and Accountability; require reporting of outcomes on licensure and certification exams taken by graduates of public
postsecondary institutions in South Dakota; and mandate a common report on job placement outcomes for all graduates of the state’s public universities and technical institutes.

Governor Picks Bob Sutton For Board of Regents

Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced that he will appoint Bob Sutton of Pierre to the South Dakota Board of Regents.
