Center of Excellence:
|
The Center of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Education provides enhanced preparation for selected students from elementary and middle school education students, as well as secondary education majors in mathematics, biology, chemistry, environmental physical science, and physical science. These students complete a rigorous curriculum that will emphasize a thorough preparation in the content of mathematics and the sciences, hands-on experience in the latest teaching strategies and instructional technologies, and a year long classroom apprenticeship under a master teacher. The Center also works with school districts to improve math and science instruction.

Mission Statement

Dakota State University is an institution specializing in programs in computer management, computer information systems, and other related undergraduate and graduate programs as outlined in SDCL 13-59-2.2. A special emphasis is the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers with expertise in the use of computer technology and information processing in the teaching and learning process. A secondary purpose is to offer two-year and one-year programs and short courses for application and operator training in areas authorized.
Dakota State University is located in Madison, South Dakota, approximately 50 miles northwest of Sioux Falls in the southern lakes region of the state. The university has been ranked 12th or higher on the Yahoo!/Internet Life list of 100 most wired colleges in the nation for the last three years. The university enrolls approximately 2000 students, has a growing Distance Education program, and considers itself South Dakota's leader in applying computer and information systems technology to higher education.

Established in 1881, South Dakota State University is the State's land-grant university and South Dakota's largest institution of higher education. SDSU is a growing and flourishing institution with an enrollment of more than 9,300 students. Recognized as a comprehensive, doctoral granting University, SDSU is accredited by the North Central Association for Colleges and Schools. The University is home to the South Dakota Art Museum whose collections include early masterpieces of Native American Tribal art, the famed Harvey Dunn paintings of pioneer life, and the exclusive Vera Way Marghab Linen Collection. The State Agricultural Heritage Museum is also part of the campus and houses exhibits that record and preserve the agrarian heritage of South Dakota.
