New courses will meet the following web accessibility guidelines.
Previously developed courses will be brought into compliance as they
are updated, unless needed to meet student disability services requests.
The web accessibility guidelines are:
- Provide alternative text in web pages
- When a web page has an image, the designer must include a link
to the image that is coded IMG SRC="blee3.jpg"
- If it is a picture, the accompanying text would be coded as
IMG SRC="blee3.jpg" border="0" ALT="Photograph of Name"
- Applets need to have alternative text
- Graphical buttons need to have alternative text
- Graphics with complex or important information must have a description
link
- PDF by Adobe cannot be read by screen readers so we must provide
HTML in addition
- The use of high contrast colors in web design is essential
- Blinking or flickering pages or images may cause seizures for
some individuals
- Web site frames, often a list of topics on the left of a home
page, may be difficult for screen readers to identify thus providing
alternate pages with no frames is recommended
- Scripts present barriers because of support style sheet problems
- Have an accessible e-mail address prominently devoted to complaints
about barriers on our web site displayed. Respond to complaints
in a timely manner
- When the format cannot be made accessible we need to have contact
information available where users with disabilities can request
copies in an accessible format such as paper copies
