The
University of South Dakota (USD), founded in 1862 by the Dakota
Territorial Legislature, prides itself on a strong liberal arts
emphasis at the undergraduate level. Led by President James W. Abbot,
a graduate of the University, the campus offers more than 100 academic
programs including a full range of graduate programs. USD has South
Dakota's only School of Law and School of Medicine, which has the
nation's highest placement of students in family practice residencies.
USD includes the College
of Arts & Sciences, the School
of Business, the School of
Education, the College of
Fine Arts, the School of Law,
the School of Medicine and Health
Sciences, and the Graduate
