If you wish to take one or more classes at a South Dakota public university, but
  • are not interested in working toward a degree, and
  • are not applying for financial aid; or
  • wish to register and begin classes while completing the degree-seeking admissions process,

then complete the Fast Track Application for Non-degree Seeking (Special) Students.

As a non-degree seeking (special) student, you may take classes from all six South Dakota public universities. To take advantage of the Electronic University Consortium services of

  • a single registration process to classes at any and all universities,
  • receive a single bill,
  • make a single payment,
  • and have courses automatically transfer back to one university from which you may request one transcript,

it is important that you identify an affiliate university.

The affiliate university is your university for student services, academic and student governance issues. Issues regarding course instruction are governed by the course instructor.

You may change your affiliate university for subsequent semesters by notifying the EUC of your desire to change affiliation. In doing so, please include your current affiliation as well as the institution to which you would now like to affiliate. Once courses have started for a semester, your university affiliation will remain the same throughout that semester. Changes in affiliation will be implemented just prior to the beginning of the following semester after which a change has been requested.

Please be aware that some graduate degree programs have restrictions regarding the number of hours earned as a non-degree seeking (special) student that can be applied toward a degree, should you later choose to seek one. Therefore, we recommend that you check with the program advisor or graduate office at the university where you may wish to seek a degree before taking more than six hours of graduate work as a non-degree seeking (special) student.
