Founded
several years before statehood, South Dakota's land-grant university,
South Dakota State University
(SDSU), embraces the national land-grant mission of teaching,
research and outreach. Brookings claims SDSU's 271 acre residential
campus, but the borders of the University extend from one end of
the state to the other with outreach faculty located in every county
in South Dakota. Excellent faculty and facilities propelled SDSU
into a fifth-place ranking among Midwestern universities in the
August 1999 issue of U.S. News and World Report.
SDSU includes the College
of Agriculture & Biological Sciences, the College
of Arts and Science, the College
of Education and Counseling, the College
of Engineering, the College
of Family and Consumer Sciences, the College
of General Studies and Outreach Programs, the College
of Nursing, the College
of Pharmacy, the Pre-Professional
Programs, and the Graduate
School. Contact SDSU's General
Academic Advisor for more information.
