• use a variety of rhetorical strategies (e.g., expository, argumentative, descriptive)
• read critically the writing of others
• view writing as a process requiring planning, drafting and revising
• write for a variety of audiences, including academic audiences
• incorporate formal research and documentation into their writing
• use standard English
• use computer technology for basic communication-related tasks such as word processing and research.
