South
Dakota Opportunity Scholarship

The
South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship awarded
over four years to high school graduates from South Dakota who complete
a challenging high school curriculum and maintain certain academic
standards. The BOR website includes scholarship information, criteria,
frequently asked questions, and provides forms for application,
transfer, and scholarship reinstatement. The site also provides
the Regents Scholar criteria for high school courses and lists the
courses by school district that meet the SD Opportunity Scholarship
criteria.

Scholarships for High School Students

The
South Dakota Board of Regents administers two scholarships to high
school students each year. The Ardell Bjugstad Scholarship Program
for Native American Students provides support for
freshman Native American students who are pursuing studies in agribusiness,
agricultural production, agricultural sciences, or a natural resources
degree at any postsecondary institution.
The
Annis Irene Fowler/Kaden Scholarship is awarded to first-time entering
freshman at BHSU, DSU, NSU or USD and who will select elementary
education as their major field. Special consideration is given to
students with demonstrated motivational ability, a disability, or
who are self-supporting.

The
South Dakota Board of Regents and its universities encourage students
to take advantage of opportunities available to them to earn college
credit. These opportunities can reduce the cost of a college education
by reducing the number of courses a student must take to complete
a degree. This site provides guidelines on ACE credit for NBPTS
certification, advanced placement (AP) credit, CLEP credit, Dantes
credit, and international baccalaureate credit.

School to College Transition Report

The
South Dakota Board of Regents provides information on the performance
of freshmen students after their first year of college in the High
School Transition Report. Student profiles are also included and
reported by school district.

BOR policy manual is available on line. Section 2 provides information
on system academic policies, including admissions, general education
requirements, associate and baccalaureate degree requirements, placement,

easy access and reference. These guidelines are updated in relationship
